Joseph Brennemann was born near Peru, Illinois. He earned a Ph.B. at the University of Michigan in 1895 and his M.D. from Northwestern University in 1900. His specialty was pediatrics. In 1921 Dr. Brennemann was appointed chief of staff at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Until his retirement from this position in 1941, Brennemann also taught at Rush Medical College and the University of Chicago School of Medicine.
